so, today i picked up:
"The adventures of Captain Underpants : an epic novel" - just hafta check it out, perhaps it'll give me something to talk with matt or paige about...
"Ani DiFranco : righteous babe" - what can i say, i've been in a biography sort of mood lately...tops on the list of late is michael j. fox's autobiography...
"Lies across America : what our historic sites get wrong" - one of those in the QPB catalog that looks interesting, but i don't have the cash for it right now...
"The worlds of Nam June Paik" - this book FINALLY came in - i had it on hold at the library since september! Paik's so fucking cool...i'm thinking i might be framing some of the pages from the book i bought on ebay long ago (in a foreign language) and using that as the starting point of decorating my room...
eek, my room! i have to get back to the apartment and get more packing done - this is the weekend of the big move!

was a bit dismayed to see that the headline i submitted had been tinkered with - i had submitted "World's tiniest baby goes home - weighed 10 oz at birth, now weighs as much as the meat in 17.6 Quarter Pounders" - going for that math geek humor...they tacked on "although not as tasty" at the end...still funny, i guess...

what the hell's that one mean? why the hell'd i have a dream with uncle tom in it? why'd i dream of getting a volvo? why were the seats in the saturn green leather? those were the most vivid parts of the dream, i'm sure they mean something....
then tonight's dream (okay, it's technically this afternoon's dream, i guess) was about donna's wedding...it was at her parents mansion (mansion?!?) and it was this huge week-long occasion type thing, i was spending the week there with her helping her to get ready...guess that medieval dress idea was out the window, she was all gussied up in this white satin number, and was really pissed off at her dad and mom...by the time the actual wedding rolled around, donna told me she didn't need me anymore and i could leave...ouch, i was so hurt. after the wedding, there was a stockholders meeting for the trader (yeah, there at the mansion) and it was announced that everyone was being fired...but they had some consolation gifts for us...badminton sets, heads of lettuce, richard simmons videos.....at the end of the dream, i found out that donna was 5 months pregnant, and i was pissed at her cuz she hadn't told me - she hid it very very well, not telling ANYONE...she went around gloating about the fact that she was pregnant in her wedding dress and nobody noticed...
???!!!???!!!???!!!???!!!???!!!???!!!???!!!???!!!???
not a clue what the hell any of it means, but it's all been very vivid...something's goin on in this head o mine...

i = poopsie

Use the second (2nd) letter of your last name to determine the first half of your NEW last name:

b = toilet
c = giggle
d = bubble
e = monkey
f = barf
g = lizard
h = waffle
i = poop
j = girdle
k = potty
l = liver
m = banana
n = rhino
o = burger
p = hamster
q = toad
r = gizzard
s = pizza
t = gerbil

Thus, for example, George W. Bush's new name is Goober Chickenshorts.To be fair, we should publish Al Gore's new

ya know, it's all my fucking fault - i cursed myself. i just HAD to be a smart ass...when i paid off my car, i said that NOW would be the time for it to fall apart. and wouldn't ya know it, i blew up the fucking engine tonight on my drive home from work! argh! so, i'm getting onto 465 from 69 and i hear a loud noise and feel a shaking...then a big *POP!* and it sounds like something falls off of the car. i see smoke coming out from under the hood. when i pull over, i pop the hood and see FLAMES - yup, my car's on fire! so i get a can of root beer out of my car, the only liquid i had, and put the flames out. a guy pulled over to see if he could help - turns out he's a mechanic at Hare Chevrolet - and he tells me i've blown a rod. i know i was due for an oil change, i was gonna get that done this weekend - guess i don't have to worry about that now - arrrrrgh! paid the fucker off april 11, the thing blows up less than a month later! the aaa guy doesn't think it was a blown rod though, he said it's unlikely that it'd catch fire in that instance, but who the fuck knows...both the guys sounded like they knew what they were talking about. *shrug*
so now, what do i do?
don't think i wanna drop one or two grand in it with a new engine - but i could probably get a couple grand out of it for a trade-in. kelley blue book says that the private party value of it in fair condition is $2,150 - says that the Trade-In value is $1,090 - with all the "push...pull...drag it in" for $2,000 trade ins i see in the wheels & deals and such, i think that's a definite thing to consider.
another thought is donating it to charity and writing it off on my taxes - would that be a better idea? *shrug* fuck if i know...
argh, how fucking annoying! *whine complain piss moan grumble*

went and saw Life or Something Like It with donna today - 'twas an okay movie. not as horrible as roger ebert's review, but i can understand his disappointment. and angelina should've definitely done a nude scene or twelve in this movie, but she didn't. *whimper*
okay, enough of this work crap, i'm goin home!! *8-)

seem to be on a memoir kick lately, tho it hasn't been intentional...the last three books i've read have been autobiographical in nature - Patient by Ben Watt, Lucky Man by Michael J. Fox and then Rosie's book....Lucky Man was certainly the best of the bunch...i also got Drew Barrymore's autobiography from the library, but i'm not sure that i'll read that one next or not...

in other news, pooky and i are shooting for June 1 as our moving date - that is, i'm moving back to mom's and he's moving into my apartment. think it'll work out well for both of us - i'll give him a good deal on the air conditioners and such and he won't have to worry about buying some and installing them and all that crap...i've got to figure out how it is i'm going to arrange things - will i be able to fit it all in here at mom's? i'll be taking over pooky's old room, aka the garage...not sure if i wanna try cramming it all in or just saying fuck it and going ahead with a storage unit. *shrug* got less than a month to figure it out tho!

i think the new work schedule will work out well, once my body gets acclimated to it. it's nice to actually have some time to just veg out on weekdays - i'm not staring at the clocking, thinking "okay, if i go to sleep RIGHT NOW, i can get 7 hours and 42 minutes of sleep" and so on...all last week i woke up before my alarm went off. i just wish i could catch a bus up here or something - i really should not be driving. kim said i could catch a ride with her, but she stays till 4:30, sometimes later and i wouldn't want to be a burden on her anyways.
urgh, back to work....

Meaghann Muncy, 9, of Dillsboro, Indiana has a rare brain abnormality called Hemimegalencephaly (HME). She has multiple life-threatening seizures daily that traditional treatments can't control. Meg's last hope of relief is a surgery removing the right half of her brain. Johns Hopkins has two surgeons who specialize in Hemispherectomy but Hopkins will not accept the family's insurance. The expected cost of her surgery is $150,000 and must be paid in full before Meg can have surgery.
pretty weird....

alrighty, i'll quit whining for a millisecond and talk happy news - i went to a vounteer meeting for IYG on wednesday, and it looks like i'll be hooking up with them again. i'm really looking forward to it. i have to keep in mind that this isn't the same IYG that i volunteered for 8 years ago, that there are a lot of changes and I can't expect everything to be sunshine and roses, but it still should be a good experience.

paige called tonight - she's such a little bundle of energy! i can barely get a word in edgewise when i talk to her, but that's okay. she's got a soccer game on the 20th at 2:30, so i think i'll be going to that....
the visit to the neuro was good - pretty much told me what i already know. there was seizure activity going on in my brain while i was in the hospital, in the left temporal lobe (as was diagnosed years ago) and the doc said my brain was "a bit slow" at times - go ahead, write your own joke there....
we're going to look into the possibility that my periods are having an effect on my seizures - hrm, the only reason i HAVE periods is cuz i take the Pill to regulate the damn thing. so, would i be better off not taking the Pill? i'm gonna track it for the next 3 months and then see the Dr. again - we'll see what happens. he also told me i need to be working on days and with a more consistent schedule. big surprise there...
while i was cleaning out my car at the car wash, i got approached by a guy - he was supposedly asking for directions, but he asked for more than that. don't know what possessed me, but i gave him my phone # when he asked for it. guess when/if he calls i'll have to explain that whole lesbian thing to him. *shrug*
going to see dr. mohan at 8:30 this morning, to get the results of my video eeg. hope there's some useful info there.
lots of stuff going on at work, i'll hafta post more about that later...
pitch-in tonight...i'm not really in the mood for it, but i suppose i should go....haven't heard from whatsherface since the last one - guess it's true about the getting a girlfriend and then dropping off the face of the planet thing....so much for those emails where she told me she really liked having me as a friend...er, friends generally check on ya when you send them an email that says you're going into the hospital to have your brain looked at...*shrug*

haven't changed the stuff on the sides, the movies, et al, so don't be thinking that the patriot is a fave movie o mine!
please bear with me whilst i tweak...URGH, i really need to learn html!!!
*8-)
one thing i can't figure out, is WHY in the hell people insist on bringing little kids to an R-rated movie. we went to the 9:40 pm showing, and in front of us sat a couple with their 2 or 3 year old kid. a few rows up was a couple with a baby in a car seat, maybe 6 months old! i'm not sure which is worse. the baby cried a few times, but was remarkably well behaved. the 3 year old being there disturbed me more, i think - do we really need kids this age seeing movies where a woman smacks a guy upside the head with a sledgehammer and assorted people are getting shot, etc?!? sorry, but i think if you can afford eight bucks a ticket to go to the movies, you can afford a fucking babysitter, and if not, stay home and rent a fucking video.

pogoin': i'm totally addicted to Poppit!™ on pogo.com - hangin out in the Rainbow Room...strange, right now it's filled with a bunch of 29 year old dykes, myself included...
watchin': er - listening, actually - to Rendez-View...dunno why, but i've gotten hooked on watching this show (probably cuz it's the only thing remotely watchable on late night tv without the luxury of cable at my apt?) Greg Proops, the main host, is so fucking cool - in fact, on this show he's almost as good as he is on Whose Line Is It Anyway?...there's another chick that serves as host on rendez-view, dunno too much about her, and then they have a couple of 2nd rate celebrities join in the discussion - tonight's episode featured Gervase & Susan from Survivor...they're all discussing a couple that's agreed to have cameras follow them on a blind date that's been arranged by the show. it's amazing to me that people actually volunteer to be on this show - i guess they follow the idea that "there's no such thing as bad publicity" - these people are FREAKS.
watchin': well, now that Rendez-View's over, i'm watching To Tell The Truth - the new version....it's pretty good too, for late nite tv....
achin': i fell on the ice in the parking lot at work wednesday, and i'm still sore as a mofo...the muscles in my thighs and upper arms just ache. driving my car is a bitch, didn't realize what sort of exertion there is on my legs when i'm hitting the clutch and such - it hurts to hit the pedals. *whine whine complain complain* wonder if i can get the trader to pay for a massage therapist? *8-) nice thought, but i doubt it...

About Sensuality
Sensuality is to be acutely aware of what the senses perceive. This preoccupation or devotion to that which is smelled, touched, heard, tasted, and seen has some bearing on how one experiences life…and sex.
Studies have shown that people who are exceptionally sensual are very process-oriented. In life, this means enjoying the present moment and not always being hung up on the future or the past. What is going on around at the present moment is enough to capture the sensual individuals full attention. This is an excellent recipe for happiness. In matters of sex, being process-oriented means NOT being driven by the goal of orgasm. Instead it means enjoying sex for the experience itself, basking in the actual act and not driving to a climactic finish.
Results of the Sensuality Test
Sensuality Index
Your score = 67
What does your score mean?
You seem to have found a balance between absolute asceticism and utter hedonism. You enjoy the titillation of the senses, but aren't driven to senseless ecstasy by the smell of a flower, the taste of rich chocolate cake with whipped cream, or the touch of a lover. You are able to appreciate and even lose yourself in the sights, smells, sounds, tastes, and feel of life. But you aren't totally pleasure-driven and you are able to keep your emotions balanced.
You are able to stay focused and to persevere, even though you might be trudging through a particularly dull or insipid period of life. Sometimes, it is necessary to relinquish an attachment to the physically divine in order to attain goals or to move ahead. Your ability to control your sensual side means that you aren't perpetually distracted by what you feel, see, hear, touch, and taste.
As far as sex goes, you enjoy the process of lingering lovemaking. During sex, the senses are more acute, and you drink in the touch, sight, sounds, and smell of your lover. There is always room to improve this tendency of yours, and your lover will certainly appreciate your devotion to the senses!
If you would like, you can intensify your sensual side by taking note of the present moment, by using your eyes, ears, nose, and fingertips to explore all of the stimuli that whirl around you at any given time. Remember to be careful not to indulge gluttonously on physical pleasures to your own detriment (careless sex, drugs, alcohol, or too much chocolate, etc.).
You only have one life and your senses are there to help you enjoy it. So get to it!

Who's Your 80s Movie Icon Alter-Ego? Find out @ She's Crafty

Which John Cusack Are You?
well, it's like a regular eeg, only longer and with a camera watching you.
i guess i could offer a few more details. *8-)
first, lemme add a disclaimer...the following is MY experience of having a video eeg at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis - YMMV. (er, that's Your Mileage May Vary for you internet-acronym-challenged types)...i know my experience will be different from others because i was a bit difficult in having this procedure scheduled - my neurologist insisted i have the video eeg done at the hospital attached to his office, Community Hospital, but after having one problem after another getting the thing scheduled and then cancelled because their equipment wasn't working, i told him i wanted it done at St. Vincent. since he's not credentialled at that hospital, a partner in his office (who'd never seen me before) came to visit me in the hospital. had i done it the way my neuro wanted, i would probably seen my regular doctor while i was having my testing done.
so, they told me to show up at the hospital at 6:45 am. i arrived and asked the information desk where i needed to go. they sent me to outpatient registration - weird, i thought, since i was staying IN the hospital for my test, but oh well. i navigate my way to the registration office and they tell me i'm supposed to go to the inpatient registration, which was right next to the information desk i originally started at. so i get there and sit around and wait (why they drilled into my head i HAD to be there at 6:45AM, i don't know) and then finally speak to a woman to get registered. i give her my insurance card and she asks if i've been a patient there before...i tell her no and give her all my pertinent information - address, phone, work info, emergency contacts, blah blah blah...then she tells me that she entered my info into the computer wrong, as an outpatient or some such, so i have to give it to her again. then something else happens during the process and i have to give her all the info _again_...then we find that i actually DO have a record in their system (i'd forgotten that i'd been a patient in that hospital when i had a seizure in my car when driving my brother & sister back to their house) but i'm in there as Lori Southerland and so we have to re-enter everything yet again...alrighty, so we get all my info entered and the clerk tells me they haven't assigned me a bed yet. argh! i've had this damned thing scheduled for WEEKS! i started getting frustrated and banged my head on the table - she asks me if i'm okay, and i tell her i've run into one problem after another trying to get this thing scheduled. she assures me that it's going to be taken care of, that we can go ahead and get ready in the eeg lab.
so, it's off to the eeg lab. i sit around and wait a bit - they ask me if i want to go get some breakfast, because it turns out that my room won't be ready until 9am. apparently the floor i'm to be staying on has been remodeled, and all the rooms had been in a different area prior to that day and that was the day that everyone was getting moved back. of course, i'd had breakfast at 4am and was just ready to get this stuff going, so they tell me to hang out for a bit, then they'll get me all hooked up. (remind me again why i had to be here at 6:45am?) i get changed into my jammies and then go into the eeg room and climb onto the bed. i look ahead of me and find i'm being stared at by Larry, the cucumber from Veggie Tales. i look at the ceiling and find myself being watched by the Cookie Monster and Big Bird. a look to the right and i see Zoe and Ernie. a look to the left, there's Eeyore. i say to the eeg technician, "errr, lemme guess...you usually test children in this room?" she tells me yes. so i lie back and stare at Cookie Monster and the eeg tech explains to me what's going to happen - she's got a red grease pencil and a tape measure and she takes various measurements of my head and makes a mark on each special spot. once she's got all the appropriate marks made, she tells me she'll be placing a small piece of gauze on the spot, putting a liquid adhesive on that and then placing the electrode on top of that - then she uses an air compressor to affix the electrodes to my head. it's a weird sensation - a mix of slight pain from these things being pressed very hard onto my skull, combined with the loud noise of the cold air bursting from the air compressor, which tickles a bit.
so, there are 25 of these electrodes on my head - each with a colored wire (rainbow colors!) that's plugged into a little box (about the size of a paperback book) with a strap on it for me to carry around, should i need to go to the bathroom or whatever. additionally, they put two monitors on my chest and one below my left eye - it's to monitor eye movements when i have a seizure. so, the little box full o' wires has a computer cable connected to it. when we get up to my room (at 10am) we connect the cable to the computer in the room - the computer's less than 10 feet away from my bed, with a camera perched atop the monitor. on the monitor there's a box showing what the camera's capturing, and a window with all the eeg activity. i notice the computer has a dvd drive on it and ask the eeg tech if she brought me any movies, but i guess she didn't get the joke. apparently the info the computer gets is burned onto a dvd. a picture here shows you what the setup is like, though i'm sure my setup was older than the one pictured.
so, i climb into bed and get ready for my close-ups. since the camera is trained on the bed, that's where i spend most of my time, except when i arrange all my cords and wires properly and walk to the bathroom. i keep busy with the magazines and stuff i brought, or by watching tv. while looking at the eeg, i notice that when i raise my eyebrows all the waves go crazy, so i spend time being goofy and seeing how various facial expressions effect the waves on the screen. yup, i'm definitely bored. i spend a LOT of time sleeping, making sure all the cords and such don't get tangled and start pulling me in different directions.
since i'm not really sick, i don't see many people - they don't really come in to check on me, except when they're bringing me meals, or meds (i'm not taking my seizure meds the whole time i'm there, but i do take all my other meds), or writing down my stats (blood pressure, temp, blood sugar, etc)...the phone in the room is rather strange - the ring on it is very low, and it doesn't really sound like a ringing phone. who knows how many calls i missed. *shrug*
so monday turns into tuesday....no seizures, nothing. i ask the doctor if they're going to try to induce a seizure in me or anything...he has me take a series of deep breaths, but that doesn't do anything...i ask him if they're getting any useful information out of this, even if i don't have a seizure. he tells me that there may be seizure activity recorded even if i don't feel as though i've had a seizure. he also tells me he doesn't know anything about my case, that he's just a middleman for my regular neurologist. i feel a bit cheated, but then i also realize it's partially my fault - it was me that INSISTED i have the test done here rather than at Community. he tells me he'll see me the next day and vanishes before i know it - he was probably in the room less than 2 minutes, deep breathing session included.
so tuesday turns into wednesday...still no seizures...spend lots of time sleeping...wednesday turns into thursday and they release me thursday morning, having had no seizures...the shower i took on thursday was delightful - a great feeling, not being attached to cables and stuck carrying this little purse around. the glue they used to attach the electrodes to my head is some heavy duty stuff - i washed my hair twice, really scrubbing, but still had lots of stuff in my hair. it looks like i've got a serious case of dandruff, but i know it'll all come out eventually. the eeg tech says it could take up to 3 weeks to get all the stuff out, but i think it'll be long gone before then. she also told me i could use nail polish remover to get it out - yeah, i've got tons of that just sitting around at home! *8-) i'll just go with the extra scrubby hair washings, thanks...
amazing how 3.5 days in the hospital can be a vacation, but it really was - not having to deal with work, getting plenty of sleep, it left me feeling really good...not sure how long that feeling will last, but oh well...
i think the fact that i didn't have any seizures even with ZERO seizure meds in my system says a lot - i think the fact that i wasn't stressed and i got lots of sleep made it harder for me to actually have a seizure - they need to have me hooked up at work! it makes me think about the job thing and whether i should request a new schedule or something...*ponder*....
so now i'll sit around and wait to hear from the doc as far as what the test told him...where we go from there, who knows...

i worked 43+ hours in 3 days - yeah, okay, i know doctors and people like that do that shit all the time, but i sure as hell am NOT taking home a paycheck like them either. and it's not like we get any sort of appreciation for what we do either - i think our department is definitely taken for granted. at this point, all i can think is "be careful what you wish for - you just might get it" - here i was thinking i was ready for more work and more responsibilities and now that i've got them, ARGH! they're driving me nuts! who knows, perhaps kim will read them the riot act at work and it won't happen again (she PROMISED us it wouldn't) but i'm not holding my breath. it's nice to hear her say it and all, but hey, if the freakin sales dept wants to quadruple the work load on us in a given week, she can't really stop it.

no work tomorrow - whoo hoo! i just hope that doesn't mean that we get so far behind this week that we have another hellacious wednesday. should be better than usual since the debster will be starting.
speaking of work...saw clare yesterday. was walking into my apartment and she was sweeping off her porch...i said hi, she said hi, asked how she was doing, she said okay...couldn't even look me in the eye though. *shrug* dunno what to think of that whole situation....
march 18th's rapidly approaching...that's when i go to st. vincent's for my video eeg...here's how the web site describes what'll be happening for the 3 days i'm there in the hospital:
"Video EEG (VEEG)
Is a procedure in which a patient undergoes a continuous EEG while being videotaped. This procedure can last between eight hours to three days, depending on the episodes the physician wishes to capture. VEEG is often used to help diagnose seizures and seizure types or to help regulate anti-seizure medications.
Although the patient is encouraged to maintain normal daily activities at the hospital while undergoing a VEEG, there are some restrictions to area of movement due to the perimeter of the video camera and wiring from the EEG leads.
When undergoing the procedure, the patient visits St.Vincent’s 5 West Neurology department. After electrodes are placed and a baseline EEG is obtained, the patient is assisted into bed while the EEG machine and video camera’s recording computers are programmed. During the test, which may last 8-72 hours, the patient stays within camera range, except during bathroom breaks and baths. Following the test, the EEG technologists scan all of the recordings and create a final tape that represents awake times, sleep times and event times. The neurologist then reviews the data and interprets the results. The information can be very helpful in successfully treating episodes."
hope something useful comes outta this....
