How in the hell is it that Spike Lee can get an injunction to keep TNN from changing their name to Spike TV? I think he's just pulling a publicity stunt - he's not been in the news too much lately with his films and such, so hey, here's an opportunity to get yer name in the paper. The man's real name isn't even Spike! And it's not like they wanna change it to SpikeLeeTV - most people I've heard talk about this, when asked who they think of when they hear the name Spike, mention the dude from Buffy. When ya take a name as your own that's a common word in the English language, how can you expect to lay exclusive claim to it?

The article says, "Viacom’s lawyers said Lee cannot prove their network’s new name refers to him. And they said no New York law gives a celebrity’s first name the protection Lee is seeking without some other suggestion of the person’s persona. But the judge disagreed. “Contrary to defendants’ position, the court is of the opinion that in the age of mass communication, a celebrity can in fact establish a vested right in the use of only their first name or a surname,” the judge wrote. “There are many celebrities that are so recognized, including Cher, Madonna, Sting and Liza.” "

yeah, but Spike Lee isn't known only as Spike the way Cher is Cher - he's SPIKE LEE.

then ya learn who Spike's lawyer is on this matter and that makes it TOTALLY clear that this is a publicity stunt - it's Johnnie Cochran, for christ's sake!
