Interesting discussion on Fark about an article on Salon about re-code.com - Re-code encourages you to do "an act of tactical shopping" - ya print out new bar codes for different products, so that ya pay less for stuff than it should ring up. hrm, the ol' price switcheroo, updated for today's technology. re-code says the site is "satire" and "We in no way endorse the theft of products or services" - um, okay. but they seem to focus on putting cheaper barcodes on more expensive stuff - that's theft. i think they should go at it with more of a culture jammer's insight - rather than encouraging people to steal (you're only stealing a couple dollars of the stuff instead of all of the stuff) they should focus on just putting undetectable bar codes with just totally crazy stuff on and letting them run through the registers. ie, instead of my going through and getting a $24.99 dvd for $6.99, just put stickers on stuff that should ring up $1.49 with a new price tag that scans at $149.99 and let other people run it through the registers...
