in cleaning out my emailbox, i've found a few links to check out later...

long ago, donna sent me a link to the entire script of that classic movie, Airplane! - have you ever seen a grown man naked?

the lyrics to laid, one of my favorite albums, by james...

tom & ray of car talk have a site at cars.com, and caroscopes, to tell you how compatible you are with your vehicle...apparently, i'm not really a toyota tercel sort of girl...

cliche kitty, the one that appears in all the photoshops on fark...

queer as folk: season 1, episode 18: watching this again on dvd, i realized i really liked the music this episode...so i'll hafta kazaa it sometime..."Horny" by Mousse T vs Hot N Juicy is stuck in my head right now...

satirewire.com

Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars (AKA "Chucks") web resources & jack's shoes & this site - hrm, those chucks with the flames are callin my name!!! low or high tops? hrmm...

music from tv commercials at songtitle.info...

illustrator resources - maybe i can learn something new to use at work...

eh, i guess those are the only links for now...'tis amazing how much crap i leave in my mailbox to look at later and then don't really need...
currently, lori is:

surfing: the hollywood bar & filmworks website - checking out the menu...have a date tomorrow night! we're going to see the wizard of oz - how cool is that?

kazaaing: i'm on a melissa etheridge kick right now...good thing i didn't believe donna when she told me kazaa was down!

cleaning: right now, i'm cleaning out the ol' email box...when my laundry's done, i'm heading home to clean the apartment...
pretty sad when you can get more information by trolling the net than you can by asking your doctor's office a few simple questions.

think it might be time to change neurologists - i don't feel comfortable with Community Hospital and having them responsible for giving me a video EEG to see if i'm a candidate for brain surgery when they've called me twice to cancel my tests because their equipment wasn't working. who's to say that the stuff will work when they DO get me in there for 3 days...and how can i possibly trust that the results they get will be worth anything? we won't even factor in the crappy care i got at the emergency room when my gall bladder screamed to be removed...what i know for sure is that i won't ever ask to be taken to community hospital in an emergency - i'll go to st. francis instead.

dr. mohan's been the first neurologist to ever even suggest the possibility of brain surgery, so i know i'm gonna need a second opinion anyways...perhaps i'll talk to dr. english and get her opinion on a good neurologist associated with a hospital other than community.

IUPUI - i saw dr. salanova years ago...perhaps i'll return to her...*shrug*

the st. vincent website had a description of the video eeg, which was more than i could ever get out of the people at JWM Neurology...

*sigh*
cool...tom tomorrow's taken to blogging...

current workplace conversation topic: whorehouses, and whether or not you have to make an appointment...

how the hell did that one come about? well, we were talking about robin's unlisted phone number getting wrong numbers and neal chimes in with how his phone number as a kid was one digit off from a whorehouse - why the hell does a whorehouse need a phone?!? was my question...thus the question about making reservations...

yeah, pretty scary, but i seem to be one of the more normal people around here....
CURRENTLY, LORI IS:

surfing: the onion and modern humorist....in the midst of this hellacious week, i need a good laugh...

reading: started on A Girl Named Zippy : Growing Up Small in Mooreland, Indiana by Haven Kimmel this morning...this chick went to the school of religion at earlham...you know she's from a small town when she calls muncie a big big city...as for the michael thomas ford books (That's Mister Faggot To You and It's Not Mean If It's True) - didn't even finish them...he's certainly no david sedaris...

amazing drive in to work this evening...cruising 465 as the sun was setting...the sky was all sorts of colors - face a different direction, see colors you didn't see before...it was hard to keep my eyes on the road, a huge chunk of sky was magenta and it set a tint over everything ahead of me....for a few minutes, at least...

now it's all dark - cuz i've moved into the hellhole that is my job. urgh. off to work i go!!
hrmmm, perhaps i should set up one of those amazon tip jars here in my blog to collect money for the video eeg and potential brain surgery....
the book _Nickel and Dimed_ i just finished reading brought up an interesting point - on page 207, it states, "The National Labor Relations Act of 1935 makes it illegal to punish people for revealing their wages to one another, but the practice is likely to persist until rooted out by lawsuits, company by company." it also includes a footnote referencing a 7/28/00 article from the New York Times, "The Biggest Company Secret; Workers Challenge Employer Policies on Pay Confidentiality".

i mention this because we've been told before at work that discussing what we make with our co-workers is grounds for immediate dismissal. this policy seems to be counter to the law....
i've got a bunch of stuff i've been meaning to put up on ebay - assorted bargains and shit i picked up after xmas...kroger had those tech deck mini skateboards - before xmas they were $3.99. i got them afterwards for $.10 each...i did some research on the tech deck website and found the things listed there for $6.99! so, i've got about a dozen or so, maybe i'll put 'em up in lots of 3 or 4 and see what i get....got lots of other shit i'll have to put on ebay in october/november, before xmas - bumbles, the abominable snowman from rudolph the red nosed reindeer, as a bobblehead...sold for $10 - paid $2 for 'em...i have entirely too much stuff - but it's so damned easy to see something on sale and say "hey, lemme throw that in a box and in a few years sell it for ten times what i paid"...i am such the pack-rat.

CURRENTLY, LORI IS:

surfing: the trading spaces website...what a cool show...

baking: apple-cinnamon-raisin muffins - gotta get rid of the huge stash of pillsbury products i've purchased recently...

watching: listening, really...the late night rerun of dateline nbc is on

cleaning: the dishes are soaking in the sink, and i'm getting ready to take the trash out...

so i'm thinking of coming up with some sort of Lori Index - a list of what i'm currently (or very recently) doing/reading/watching/surfing/eating/buying/whatever....it can certainly tell ya what sort of mood i'm in if i've got the really depressing shit in the CD player or whatever...

so here goes for now - what i've been currently doing...categories are subject to change at any given millisecond...

CURRENTLY, LORI IS:

kazaa'ing: _This Way_ - Jewel - urgh, that "standing still" song is trapped in my head - get it out!!!

reading: just finishing up _Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America_ by Barbara Ehrenreich...next on the list of books i've recently gotten from the library: _That's Mr. Faggot to You : Further Trials from My Queer Life_ by Michael Thomas Ford

eating: some mahjongg leftovers - one of our usual dinners - KFC!

surfing: popshop.com - getting ideas for stuff to download from kazaa...

listening: Jewel & Melissa Etheridge doing "You Can Sleep While I Drive", freshly ripped from kazaa....

hrmm...that pretty much sums up what i'm doing at the moment...

'nother night at the computer, kazaa-ing away...found another website, popshop.com, that horribly overcharges for cd's of stuff that can easily be gotten from kazaa for free, of songs i just absolutely loved back in the day and now have completely forgotten about...so i'm infringing on a number of copyrights...but wait, i owned those songs years and years ago, so this is just making my perfectly legal backup copy, right? right? *wink wink*

just woke up from a STRANGE dream...i had a baby, and i was in pittsburgh...a very little, just barely born baby...the thing fit in my hand...and here i was in charge of it and was completely clueless as to what to do...*shrug* i think the pittsburgh thing comes from my watching the whole first season of queer as folk over the past couple of weeks...but the baby thing? no idea...

games night went well tonight - it was kind of weird without christine...angela's taking over, but she couldn't make it tonight so i was in charge - eeek!...started off kind of slow, but then more people arrived - i'd consider it a success...played euchre and catchphrase (the electronic version i bought is pretty cool!) and renee brought some card game i'd never seen before, illuminati...apparently i won, but i'm still not sure how...i suspect it's much like mah jongg - takes ya a long time to learn all the intricacies and such, but once ya do, it's addictive...

so i guess i won't miss out on the suckage that is work next week - doc's office called, they've got to reschedule my video eeg. had to cancel it again because the equipment's broken. they sure as fuck aren't instilling a lot of confidence in me here...

work: ugh. so we found out that they screwed up in telling us what our raises were. so i go from being not too disappointed to just irritated as shit. can't trust a thing they say these days, whether it be the insurance stuff or raises or whatever....they're getting really good at taking what little office morale was left and putting it right into the crapper....

"You are smart, but you're not right in the head." - yup, there's the evaluation of me provided by my boss today. thanks kim! *8-)
well...what started out as a majorly sucky night at work is becoming somewhat better...we're starting two new publications this week, and there's been NO pre-planning done and all hell's broken loose....and i've been "promoted" (if we dare call it that) to doing covers, yet they don't tell me half the shit i need to know to get the job done...ARGH! start work at 6:00 - by 6:07 i'm ready to pull out the uzi and blow people away....not a good way to start the day...

got a bit better when we weazeled donna into going to K-roger to make a ben & jerry's run...yummy! b&j always make things better! triple caramel chunk - yummmmmmy!

i just wanna fast forward the work schedule a few weeks ahead so that we can be over the growing pains and settled into a regular schedule...well, at least i get to miss the fun next week - i'm getting my head checked!!!

Tuesday, January 22, 2002

weird dreams today...dreamt i went to work and cassandra was there, fully recovered from her stroke...*sigh* if only that one would come true...sheesh, now i've forgotten the others...they were even weirder...oh well.

so, at work yesterday we found out about our raises. i was all prepared to be majorly disappointed - and then i wasn't. i'm okay with the raise i got. yeah, it'd be great if it was bigger, but in this economy i'm gonna be glad i have a fuckin job, let alone one that gives me a raise....

monday's fast approaching...i'm doing the video eeg thing then...urgh.

time to get ready for work!!!
